Korean War Memorial Mint Hill, NC

The original design of the memorial.

Several years ago, a group of Korean War Veterans in North Carolina set out to create a memorial that would honor and remember those who fought in the Korean War. The town of Mint Hill donated a section of one of its municipal parks, and an architect, Kent Goolsby of Charlotte, donated his expertise in helping design the memorial.
The memorial is in its final phases of construction. Recently, two statues were installed to the memorial. One shows a soldier in dress uniform and the other shows him in a poncho. In the coming months, four pillars inscribed with the 789 soldiers who were killed or missing in action from North Carolina will be added to the site. One of the final pieces is the fountain in the center.
The fountain represents the center element (taeguk) of the Korean national flag.
The walkway is made of granite pavers honoring our military of all wars. Additional granite benches and flowering trees will be outside the circle.
It is a testament to not only the Korean War vets from North Carolina who are building the memorial, but the people of this country and world who have donated to the cause. Many companies in the Mint Hill area have donated thier skills and expertise in constructing the memorial.
    You can help, too.
With just a few more pieces to finish before completion, there is still time to purchase a paver that commemorates a loved a veteran of any war. Also available are business sponsorships. The memorial will draw people to Mint Hill for years to come and is a great way to show your support in helping to remember thoses who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
