Hundreds of people were in Mint Hill Saturday night to help honor the veterans who fought and died in the Korean War. The veterans are trying to raise $510,000 to build a memorial and are halfway toward their goal. Retired Col. Bill Reid, U.S. Air Force said it was a sold out event at the Masonic Lodge on Lawyers Rd.
Korean Appreciation Day In Mint Hill Draws More than 300

The organizers of the new North Carolina Korean War Veterans Memorial in Mint Hill held a Korean Appreciation Day at the Park on Fairview Sunday. More than 300 tuned out for the event which was an appreciation for the Korean communities in Charlotte and the South for helping to finance the new memorial. Don Putnam, president of the Korean War veterans association chapter which spearheaded the effort to build the memorial, received at check for $56,244 from the Consul General of The Republic of Korean based in Atlanta, GA on behalf of the Republic of Korea government.
North Carolina Korean War Memorial Ready For First Phase

The veterans behind the North Carolina Korean War Memorial at the Mint Hill Park on Fairview are ready to place the granite sign. Workers recently prepared the spot where the sign will go and are now waiting for warmer weather so they can pour the concrete. Once that is completed, workers will move on to Phase 2 which will consist of most of the rest of the memorial.
